Pirates of the Caribbean arrr coming to LittleBigPlanet

[LittleBigPlanet Central] It's been nearly a year since Media Molecule created the Metal Gear Solid level pack for LittleBigPlanet. A recent Trophy leak shows that the PS3 platformer is finally getting an official MM-developed playable add-on -- this time, inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
This partnership was first teased at E3. We presumed the partnership would result in nothing more than a downloadable costume, and we were wrong. The open seas should provide a fittingSource: PS3 Fanboy RSS Feed

Wedding(ish) bells pealing in Vienna!

h/t petey. The Austrian parliament legalized civil unions today! The vote was 110-64, so it passed by almost a super-majority. Congratulations, Austria!!!

Austrian civil unions are not equal to marriage, since CU'd couples aren't allowed to adopt or use artificial insemination, and couples have to register in the coat closet rather than the regular registry office. Still, this is a huge and excellent start. We know that these prohibitions will fall away in time.

ViewSonic outs 23-inch VP2365wb and 26-inch VP2655wb IPS LCD monitors

ViewSonic's last round of LCDs were nothing short of unforgettable, but these two might actually grab (and retain) your attention if you consider yourself a "professional." The 23-inch VP2365wb and 26-inch VP2655wb both fall into the firm's VP series of 1080p pro LCDs, and the both of 'em are blessed with IPS panels and 4-port USB hubs. You'll also find pivoting stands on the pair, and while the 23-incher gets a 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution, the big boy steps it up to 1,920 x 1,200 and offers a 118 percent NTSC wide color gamut for those discerning retinas of yours. Interested? The duo is available now if you look in the right places, and while the VP2365wb will cost you just $399, the larger sibling will ding you for $1,299.

Nike turns twitter red for World Aids Day

Don't quite know how they did this, but if you use the hashtag #red today on twitter, the text of your entire tweet turns red (as seen by your followers). See the @joinred page for more.

It's sponsored by Nike - see here for more - and the tag #laceupsaveslives will also turn your tweets red.

Very, very clever.
& you have to wonder whether any money changed hands...

Samsung Jet Mystic Purple spotted in Hong Kong

Samsung is no stranger to introducing various color versions for its popular phones, so I’m not surprised to find out that the Samsung Jet S8000 has been dressed in purple and called Samsung Jet Mystic Purple.

For the moment, the Jet Mystic Purple seems to be available only in Hong Kong, and there’s no word if Samsung intends to launch it elsewhere.

The phone’s price is not known, but buyers will also get a free leather name card holder (while supplies last, anyway).

Sony PSPs enlisted as study aids by the Royal Navy

Whoever it was at Sony HQ that decided to pursue "military contracts" as a revenue source, kudos! Mere days after the US Air Force expressed interest in expanding its PS3 supercomputer, we're hearing glorious Britannia's Royal Navy has conscripted 230 PSPs into duty as revision aids for its trainee sailors. Loaded with maths and physics materials, the PSPs can be used in a bunk, have familiar controls for the young and mostly male recruits, and are considered pretty tough to break. The underlying reason for this move though is cost cutting: by making the training course more intensive, the Navy is saving on teaching time. Given that the UMD drive won't come disabled -- which is hoped to encourage the sailors to take better care of the device -- the future this paints is of marines who've spent more time with a freebie handheld console than with a pro instructor. At least they'll have a great stable of captured monsters to show for it.
